A recent addition to Indy’s art scene, Carly Miller has definitely come with arms full. After spending 22 years growing up in sunny Florida, she moved to Rochester, New York to receive her MFA in photography, and then to central Indiana with her fiance and dog, Ellie. She currently teaches at the Indianapolis Art Center and IUPUI.
Carly’s passion for family history, genealogy and large format portraiture have culminated in this exhibit, as she has worked to explore the connections between family portraiture and the need for intimacy. “My photographs contribute to the larger historical record of family identities and serve as a pictorial autobiography.” Family Reunion serves to record every living member of Miller’s mother’s family.
Please join FPA&B as we celebrate Miller’s work and explore the importance and necessity of family portraiture for shaping family identity. The show will open on First Friday, Feb. 3rd from 4:30-10p, with an artist reception from 6-9p.
